Fiscal Sponsorship

Cristobal Herrera and Barbara Martinez perform at Atrevete Flamenco Dance Theater of New York

"Since 1993 our organization's fiscal sponsorship relationship with the New York Foundaiton for the Arts has been one of excellence. Without their expertise, patience and professionalism, small organizations such as ours could not flourish."

--Clarence Irving, Sr.,

Donate to a sponsored artist project or emerging arts organization

Fiscal Sponsorship is a critical way for emerging arts organizations, individual artists, and artists' collaborative projects in all disciplines to apply for funding usually available only to organizations with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.  The right fiscal sponsor will not only allow you to manage your project efficiently, but can actually help you to raise more money and realize your artistic vision more fully.

The New York Foundation for the Arts’ (NYFA) Fiscal Sponsorship Program is one of the oldest, largest, most prestigious and artist friendly in the country.  We take a passionate interest in your work and give you the advice, assistance and the tools your need to succeed.  We see ourselves as your partner and do everything we can to help you manage your administrative tasks, so you can spend more time creating.

There are several advantages to working with NYFA:

1. NYFA is one of the country’s most respected not-for-profit arts organizations.  Fiscal Sponsorship is just one portion of the multi-faceted services we provide to artists.   By working with us, you gain access to all of our services.

2. Because of our exemplary reputation, funders consider our Fiscal Sponsorship Program to be the gold standard.  When you apply for grants using NYFA, funders know your project has been thoroughly reviewed and vetted, which improves your chances of receiving their support.

3. No funds need to be raised to be accepted into the program.  We are looking for artists and organizations we can believe in and work with over time.  Once you are accepted into the program, we will do everything we can to help you raise the funds you need.

4. Unparalleled service provided by people who care about your project. Our sponsorship team is expert in the field. Our Program Officers are experienced and committed to serving artists. Matthew Seig, Media Specialist for Fiscal Sponsorship, is creating new programs for filmmakers in 2010. Rory Golden, our newest team member is a visual artist, who, along with Matthew Seig and Program Officer Rachel Gourvitz, an experienced arts administrator, will answer all of your questions regarding the sometimes complicated and confusing world of fundraising. They can help you avoid common mistakes and make the process as smooth as possible.

5. No hidden fees.  NYFA takes a higher percentage of donations than some other programs, but we offer more free services, so in the end, you are paying the same (if not less) for greater service and a higher degree of fundraising success.  For example:
